Diaspora.Black stands in solidarity with participants and organizers of the Black São Paulo Walk, who were escorted by the Military Police of the State of São Paulo this Saturday, during the first edition after the release of cultural activities in the capital.

The group of 12 people wore masks and maintained social distancing, following World Health Organization (WHO) protocols.

They were approached at the beginning of the walk, monitored throughout the 3-hour route, and filmed by the military. Part of the route was escorted by the PM's cavalry.

We repudiate the action of the Military Police and await a statement from the São Paulo State Tourism Department.

This arbitrary and discriminatory conduct represents a significant obstacle to the resumption of tourist and economic activities in the city.

The Black São Paulo Walk experience covers public spaces in downtown São Paulo, starting at Praça da Liberdade.

During the walk, facilitators Guilherme Dias and Heitor Salatiel narrate historical landmarks and memories of black personalities in the city.

Since 2018, over 500 people have participated in the Walk, organized by Black Bird Travel and Representativity, getting to know and appreciating spaces and memories of the city's black history.

We will not be intimidated.
