AfroTourism throughout the country

In May, #Afroturismo arrived in Juiz de Fora (MG) and Alagoa Grande (PB) with two projects supported by the Black Routes Grant!

Initiatives supported by the Percursos Negros call start activities in Juiz de Fora (MG) and Alagoa Grande (PB)

In Minas, the first edition of #CaminhadaJuizdeForaNegra took place, walking through the black memories of the Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais! It was so successful that the itinerary is already part of the city's cultural circuit!

"There were 400 years of producing a unique narrative of the city, and only in the last 40 years have we been able to tell and recognize our own history," said historian Beto Cruz, one of the creators of the experience, along with Pamella Nascimento, from @damatacultural.

And after two years of closed doors, the Quilombo Caiana dos Crioulos (@quilombocaiana), in Alagoa Grande (PB), started receiving visitors again! More than 60 people participated in conversations, trails, and presentations! Among them, quilombolas from neighboring communities were inspired by the initiative carried out since 2016 by the collective of quilombola women @mulheresnegras.caiana.

"We were alone from the beginning, the community came together as best as it could. We had a great need for training to lead the project, and the workshops were a starting point, a stimulus for us to resume," says Luciene Tavares.

The Edital Percursos Negros supports 10 initiatives in all regions, with financial resources, mentoring, and technical workshops for the development of itineraries. These are treasures of our country and we are very proud to echo these stories!

There is much more #Afrotourism to come!
